Hair extensions are made up of up of synthetic or human hair. While the synthetic extensions are cheaper alternatives, made up of a synthetic material with a silicon coating, the human hair extensions are made from natural hair and can tolerant to heat and other styling techniques like your natural hair. However, irrespective of which one you choose, it is essential to understand the various types of hair extensions available in the market and their pros and cons, before you decide to style your hair.

The tape-in extensions for a quick solution:

The tape-in hair extensions are one of the most popular types of hair extension, which take very little time to be installed in your hair and require very less maintenance. It is simply stuck to the natural hair by using the tapes, present in the extension by applying heat and with a little care, it can easily last for several months. However, the tape-in hair extensions can damage the hair follicles, if used for a prolonged period because it does not allow the usage of leave-in conditioners and other hair care products, which causes them to slip away.

The clip-in hair extensions, typically last for the shortest period and thus, it is rather time-consuming because it requires at least 30 minutes styling, every time you apply them to your hair.  But, they are a great solution for a quick hair transformation, before a party or event. The best part of the clip-in extensions is that they are temporary, and thus are less harmful to your natural hair since it requires no glues, beads or sewing. Additionally, they can be attached anywhere in your head, and are available in a wide variety of shades, textures, and styles, which allows you ample room for experimentation with your hair.

Micro-bead extensions for the funky look:

The micro link or micro bead extensions are usually looped into the natural hair and are finally settled with a metal bead. The metal beads typically require heat to for the setting, so you can also ask the stylist to use the silicon beads.  The micro link extensions can last for a few months if you avoid applying heavy conditioners near the beads.

The weaved hair extensions for long-lasting hairstyle:

The weaved hair extensions are attached by stitching the bundles of natural hair. The manual weaving procedure is expensive and labor intensive, but the braided machine extensions are relatively faster. These extensions look good on any form of hair, but if you have dry and weak hair, avoid the stitching method because your hair might not be able to withstand the stress.

The fusion extensions for safe and long-lasting hairstyle:

The fusion hair extension procedure is the most labor-intensive procedure and thereby is the most expensive one. In this method, the extensions are fused or sealed to the hair using keratin or glue. The keratin tip is intricately bonded with each strand of hair and needless to say, that the procedure is a lengthy one, which might take up few hours at the hair extension salon. But it also requires less maintenance, compared to the other types of hair extensions and allows your hair to grow faster and stay healthy.
